70s-Inspired Concept Book

Hey guys,

For a Space Planning project of mine, I had to design a 3000sf  2 storey home for a hypothetical client in West Vancouver. Below I have included my concept statement, as well as some of the inspirational images for my great room/dining room/kitchen.

When you're designing a room, or doing any creative project really, it's a good idea to put some concepts and ideas together so that you can visualize what the space will look like (and more importantly, you're client-if you have one-will be on the same page as you). My biggest problem in art school was always having this fantastic, grand idea in my head, but not being able to execute exactly what I had in mind. A concept book is a good way to get some solid ideas together before you begin anything to avoid disasters later! (Trust me, I've had my fair share of surprises minutes before critiques!)

Some good questions to ask yourself before you start looking for images for your concept:
a) What kind of feeling would you like the space to evoke?

b) Are you going for something contemporary or traditional? Or my favourite - Electic (kinda a combo of both)? If you are just redecorating ONE room in your house, keep the style of the rest of the house in mind.

c) What is the space being used for? Is it formal or casual?

Now, for my favourite part, go find fun photos that inspire you!!!!

Concept Statement:

Mrs. Frampton's (my hypothetical client) passion for graphic arts was the inspiration for the design of her home. The clean lines and graphic patterns in the home are meant to inspire her creativity, while playing on the youthfulness of her family (She has two young boys and a teenage daughter). The retro patterns are reminiscent of the non-traditional references throughout the home. The traditional elements of the design represent the Frampton's conventional family traditions. Each room will be mostly white, grey and black, but bright colours will be used to draw attention to bold patterns and shapes throughout the interior.
